Roth Rural

Founded in 2007, Roth Rural provides specialised services in agricultural, natural resource management and regional research management, strategic planning, communication, facilitation, monitoring and evaluation.  We specialise in working with rural industries, research organisations, departments and rural communities.

Ingrid Roth has worked with rural industries in research, communications, leadership, extension and evaluation for over 25 years.  She has a solid background in agricultural science, is a farmer and is passionate about rural Australia.

Associate Professor Guy Roth is now the Director of Northern Agriculture for the University of Sydney.

Australian-grown Horticulture Sustainability Framework.  Working with Horticulture Innovation and the Australian grown horticulture sector  to identify the topics important to stakeholders and to develop a process to measures and share horticulture’s sustainability story.  More here

Australian Cocoa Strategic RD&E Plan 2022-2027  On behalf of AgriFutures Australia, worked with the small Australian cocoa industry and researchers to prepare this research, development and extension plan. Available from AgriFutures Australia

Smarter Irrigation for Profit Project (cross-sectoral)  Guy led the application process (2014) for Minister Joyce’s Rural Research for Profit Program. The project was the largest project ($4 million) funded and is one of only 12 successful projects. It included 19 farmer sites including two in the sugar industry.

Primary Industries Water Use in Agricultural National R&D Strategy, All RDCs, all PISC DPIs and Council Deans of Agriculture, Current  Guy was the Co-leader of the team that developed this national R&D strategy. He was the Rural Research and Development Corporations” representative” on the committee. He therefore maintained close contact with Dairy Australia, RIRDC, Cotton, Sugar, Grape and Wine, Horticulture Australia, GRDC and others as part of this process.

Cotton Growing Practices: Annual Survey of Cotton Growers 2013 and 2014-2017 CottonRDC  Ingrid completed an annual survey of cotton growers to gather information to inform R&D and to provide data for the evaluation of CRDC’s performance against its Strategic R&D plan. Survey design, gathering input, analysis, report, presentations, industry communications.

myBMP Lead Auditor, CRDC/Cotton Australia 2009-2016 Led the audit process of the cotton industry myBMP program to ensure consistency, robustness and efficient for growers. The program includes IPM/Biosecurity modules as well as other aspects of on farm production. https://mybmp.com.au/

Cotton BMP Program and Global Better Cotton Initiative, Cotton Australia 2013.  Developed a framework to align cotton myBMP program with the standards of the Global Better Cotton Initiative. Developed solutions where the two program did not align. Outcome was alignment and acceptance between the two programs.

Australian Grown Cotton Sustainability Report, CRDC 2014  Developed sustainability indicators for Australian cotton and produce a report to the Global Reporting Initiative standard. Australian Grown Cotton Sustainability Report

Australian Grain Stewardship Principles, GRDC 2013-2015  Worked with all peak grains industry groups and technical specialists to develop key principles of grain management, with a focus on chemical management, grain storage and safety.  These principles link with the existing industry assurance programs (GrainCare and, until recently CBH Group On-Farm QA).  Growing Australian Grain: Safely managing risks with crop inputs and grain on farm

National Program for Sustainable Irrigation – Program Management NPSI, CRDC, LWA 2008-2012 Guy managed the NPSI from 2008 until it ceased in June 2012. This has involved convening the Program Management Committee, holding stakeholder forums, reviewing and approving research projects, liaising with researchers, contracting projects, commissioning consultancies, promoting the work of NPSI and liaising with funders.
